My interest in information security goes back to Penn State when I took a course in number theory and where I implemented algorithms in 8085 assembler to handle 2040 bit numbers (i.e., 255 bytes) and that interfaced to a Pascal system that handled high-level details. The goal
was to work with large prime and composite numbers, and to investigate aspects of both number theory and public key cryptography (i.e., the RSA algorithm).
While Director of Academic Computing and network adminstrator at Shenandoah University from 1992-1994, I got involved in many practical security matters.
In my consulting, security is an increasingly important area that I have been involved with. Traditionally, my passion is in designing and implementing systems. Security is a natural by-product as an attacker will always try to find the weakest link in a system and a good
understanging of the entire system makes it easier to defend the system from successful attack.
